Yoko Ono, known for her marriage to John Lennon, was reportedly "in love" with Paul McCartney before her relationship with Lennon began, according to Hunter Davies, author of an authorized Beatles biography.

Davies, who wrote *The Beatles: The Authorised Biography* in 1968, said Ono met McCartney in 1966 while seeking musical manuscripts and lyrics for a friend. McCartney directed her to Lennon instead, and Ono and Lennon subsequently met and developed a connection later that year. The biographer suggested that Ono initially harbored feelings for McCartney before her relationship with Lennon took hold, though he refrained from elaborating further out of respect for Ono, who is still living.

In addition to this personal insight, Davies commented on the dynamic between the two former Beatles, describing their friendship as one marked by both deep affection and intense rivalry. Lennon and McCartney’s creative partnership was a defining element of the band’s success, yet Davies noted it was underscored by competition.
