England and Hampshire fast bowler John Turner has announced his immediate retirement from all forms of cricket at the age of 25. Born in South Africa, Turner made his professional debut for Hampshire in 2021 and represented England in two Twenty20 internationals and two One Day Internationals during the 2024 tour of the West Indies.

Turner’s career was notably disrupted by a stress fracture in his back, an injury that kept him sidelined for more than a year. Over the course of his career, he played 53 matches across all formats for Hampshire, taking a total of 97 wickets.

In a statement, Turner reflected on his career and decision to retire, describing it as one of the most difficult choices he has faced. He expressed gratitude for having fulfilled his childhood ambition of playing professional and international cricket. However, ongoing injury concerns, particularly the stress fracture and his overall injury history, led him to consider his long-term health and future beyond the sport.

Turner’s departure marks an early end to a promising career that had seen rapid progression but was ultimately curtailed by physical setbacks. Both Hampshire and England cricket teams acknowledged his contribution and wished him well for his future endeavors beyond cricket.
