Malaysian shooter Johnathan Wong concluded his campaign at the Asian Games without advancing to the medal rounds, while Nurul Syasya Nadiah Ariffin remains in contention with further events ahead.

On Saturday at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, the Malaysian mixed team of Johnathan Wong and Nurul Syasya Nadiah Ariffin finished eighth in the 10m air pistol qualifying round, scoring a combined total of 576 points. Their performance was short of the mark required to progress, as only the top four teams advanced to the final. India led the qualifying leaderboard with a score of 587, followed by Iran (584), South Korea (582), and Indonesia (580).

In the final round of the mixed team event, India’s Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh secured the gold medal, setting a new Asian Games record with a score of 484.6. South Korea took the silver with 478, while Iran earned the bronze medal with 415.8.

This result marked a slight setback for the Malaysian duo compared to their seventh-place finish at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022. Additionally, both Johnathan and Nurul Syasya were unable to advance in their respective individual 10m air pistol events, exiting without progressing to the final stages.

While Johnathan’s participation ended with the mixed team event, Nurul Syasya will continue to represent Malaysia, competing in the women’s 25m pistol event alongside compatriot Alia Sazana Azahari on Sunday.

Malaysia’s shooting team will also feature in the women’s individual 50m rifle three positions event on the same day, with Gan Chen Jie, Alia Husna Budruddin, and Nur Suryani Taibi scheduled to compete.

As the games continue, Malaysian shooters will be aiming to improve their standings and contend for medals in the remaining events.
