Rookie right-hander Ryan Johnson delivered a strong performance as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 on Tuesday. Johnson, making his third career start, threw six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out a career-high eight batters. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Jeremiah Jackson broke it up with a single to center field. Johnson threw a total of 90 pitches in the outing.

The Angels struck early in the game when Schanuel hit a two-run home run to help set the tone. Johnson’s steady pitching helped the team maintain control throughout the contest.

On the mound for the Orioles, right-hander Shane Baz struggled, allowing five runs on eight hits over five innings. Baz walked one batter and struck out five but was unable to build on Baltimore’s previous momentum after winning three consecutive games.

After Johnson exited, the Orioles managed to score their lone run in the seventh inning. Gunnar Henderson led off the frame with a single, followed by a walk from Anthony Alonso against Angels reliever Samy Natera Jr. Baltimore then scored on a two-out single to center field by Leody Taveras off Angels pitcher Silseth.

The victory halted Baltimore’s three-game winning streak and marked an important outing for Johnson as he continued to establish himself in the Angels’ rotation.
