British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith revealed that her third studio album, titled *What Are The Odds*, originated from spontaneous late-night recording sessions with her longtime producer P2J. The Midlands-born artist described the creative process as informal, prioritizing music that felt authentic in the moment rather than following a predetermined plan.

Smith explained that the album’s sound developed through experimentation with a variety of musical styles, including UK garage, grime, house, funky house, and Afro house. She characterized the overall mood of the music as uplifting, despite lyrics that often explore themes of growing up, love, loss, friendships, and personal self-discovery. “I trusted my instincts with this one and I think you can hear that throughout the record,” she said.

The album is scheduled for release on August 21. Smith dropped its lead single, “Alive,” which features Nigerian artist Wizkid, describing the collaboration as effortless and creatively fulfilling. The track was written and recorded in London, capturing the excitement of new beginnings in a relationship, according to Smith.

She also expressed admiration for Wizkid’s role in popularizing Afrobeats internationally, calling the opportunity to work with him both special and an honor. The collaboration represents a continuation of Smith’s engagement with diverse musical influences, reflecting her evolving artistic identity ahead of the forthcoming album.
