Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol has committed his future to the club by signing a new five-year contract extension, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2031. The 24-year-old Croatian international agreed to the deal ahead of Croatia’s World Cup match against England.
Gvardiol, who joined Manchester City from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a reported fee of £77 million, had attracted interest from prominent clubs including Barcelona and Real Madrid. Despite the departure of manager Pep Guardiola, who originally signed him, Gvardiol remains a vital part of City’s plans moving forward.
Earlier this year, Gvardiol suffered a broken leg in January, casting doubt on his availability for the World Cup. However, he successfully recovered in time to return to fitness by the end of the club season and will now represent Croatia on football’s biggest stage.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s new head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing to strengthen his squad with a potential move for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva. There is also speculation that Mourinho could pursue City’s Portugal defender Ruben Dias as part of his rebuilding efforts.
