A freelance journalist has received a suspended prison sentence after being convicted of stalking former Chancellor George Osborne and his wife, Thea Rogers. Lydia Suffield, 29, of Liverpool, admitted to two lesser stalking offences at Isleworth Crown Court, relating to incidents that took place during 2022 and 2023.
Suffield was found to have harassed the Osbornes by sending false allegations to their friends and family. She also made reports to social services accusing the couple of drug abuse and neglect regarding their young children, which prompted an official investigation.
The harassment had a significant impact on the couple, with Rogers stating that she had contemplated canceling their wedding in 2023 due to the ongoing stalking. Despite denying that her actions caused serious alarm or distress, Suffield's behaviour led the court to impose a 22-week prison term, suspended for two years.
In addition to the suspended sentence, court officials issued a restraining order prohibiting Suffield from contacting George Osborne and Thea Rogers in any form.
