Justin Baldoni has publicly addressed the legal dispute with co-star Blake Lively for the first time, describing the experience as “traumatic.” The two actors settled a bitter lawsuit in May that arose from the production of the film *It Ends with Us*, in which both starred.
The conflict began after Lively, the film’s lead actress, accused Baldoni—who also directed and co-starred—of sexual harassment on set. She further alleged that Baldoni launched a retaliatory smear campaign against her following the accusations. Baldoni denied the allegations and filed a countersuit. The charges and counterclaims generated significant media attention throughout the legal proceedings.
In a nearly five-minute video released recently, Baldoni reflected on the ordeal without specifically naming Lively. He described the past few years as difficult, saying the process involved painful moments and a nonlinear path to healing. “There have been so many painful things that have been spoken into existence over the last couple years,” he said. He emphasized the importance of family, friends, community, and faith in helping him and his wife, Swedish actress Emily Baldoni, navigate the situation.
The couple, married since 2013, said they emerged from the experience closer and more devoted to their faith. Baldoni expressed gratitude to supporters who stood by them during the dispute, acknowledging that their backing played a significant role in his ability to persevere. “Thank you does not feel enough, but we’re here, in large part, because of so many of you and all of our friends and family,” he said.
Emily Baldoni also commented on the case, suggesting that the lawsuit was “disguised as a fight for women,” a remark widely interpreted as a reference to Lively’s sexual harassment claims. She described the situation as complex and troubling, noting that the couple has struggled with understanding how the allegations came about.
Blake Lively has not yet issued a public statement since the settlement. However, reports indicate that she is now seeking $8 million in legal fees from Baldoni as part of the ongoing fallout from the dispute. The resolution of this financial claim remains unclear.
