Dr Rascal, ridden by Kaiya Fraser, secured a notable victory in the Group Two Coral Vintage Stakes, overcoming adversity to maintain an unbeaten partnership. The duo had recently experienced an unusual incident at Ascot when Dr Rascal was spooked by a loose horse, causing the colt to run loose and requiring encouragement to enter the stalls. Fraser sustained a bite during the episode but their resilience was evident in Saturday’s race.

Trained by Oliver Cole, Dr Rascal entered the contest following a previous win at Leicester. The victory continues a family tradition, as Cole’s father had successfully targeted the Coral Vintage Stakes in the past with horses such as Putra (1996), Central Park (1997), and Strategic Prince (2006). In this year’s race, Dr Rascal, owned and bred by Charlie and Julia Rosier, took a daring inside path, overtaking Pikachu before securing the win by a comfortable half-length over Haffner. Al Hudaiba, the 5-4 favorite, finished a short head behind in third place.

Fraser, 23, who was introduced to racing by his late grandfather Winston, praised Dr Rascal’s bravery and responsiveness. "I knew how much horse I had underneath me after riding him the previous two times and he was brave enough to go and do what I asked," Fraser said. Speaking of the earlier incident, he noted the colt required assistance entering the stalls due to his prior experience.

Oliver Cole, who took over the stable license from his father about a year ago, described the win as significant in his first full year as a trainer. He acknowledged Dr Rascal’s quality and suggested the Dewhurst Stakes as a potential springboard for the horse’s future campaign.

Elsewhere on the card, Saffie Osborne extended her successful run by guiding Twilight Calls to victory in the Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap. The six-year-old’s late surge allowed him to narrowly defeat Naana’s Sparkle and Glamorous Breeze. Trainer Richard Spencer indicated the horse might contest the Stewards Cup this coming Saturday, noting improvements attributed to the winter campaign in Dubai and the addition of a visor. Bookmakers currently offer 16-1 odds for Twilight Calls to better his fifth-place finish in last year’s Stewards Cup.
