Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has awarded contracts exceeding QR2.2 billion to enhance the electricity network in the country’s western region, facilitating the integration of the Dukhan Solar Power Project into the national grid. The agreements were finalized with several local and international firms, including Voltage Engineering LTD, the Best & Betas Consortium, Larsen & Toubro, and L.S Cable.
These contracts form part of Kahramaa’s strategic efforts to connect the Dukhan solar facility with the western electricity network. The scope encompasses engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities aimed at building and upgrading substations, as well as installing underground cables and overhead transmission lines.
The projects are designed to support the corporation’s goal of securely and efficiently incorporating renewable energy sources into the grid. Enhancing the network’s capacity to accommodate increased solar power generation is a key focus, alongside improving overall grid flexibility and operational performance. The substantial financial investment underscores Kahramaa’s commitment to reinforcing the grid's readiness and ensuring system stability over the long term.
Engineer Abdulla bin Ali al-Theyaib, President of Kahramaa, emphasized that expanding the electricity network in the western region will enhance service reliability and quality for consumers, addressing both present and future electricity demands.
