Ricky Wilson, lead singer of the British band Kaiser Chiefs, says he is drawing inspiration for new music from what he describes as “the gods” sending melodies during his sleep. In a recent interview, Wilson revealed that he had woken up with a new tune in his head, which he promptly shared with his bandmates, expressing optimism that their next album could be their best yet.

Wilson referenced stories involving musical icons such as Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger, who have credited some of their most famous songs, including “Yesterday,” “Let It Be,” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” to tunes spontaneously coming to them upon waking or during moments of rest. Drawing a parallel, Wilson said he feels similarly inspired and views these moments of creative clarity as a sign that “the gods have sent me something.”

Since quitting alcohol in 2024, Wilson reports experiencing a renewed sense of energy and focus both on and off stage. He described his life as “a lot less chaotic, and a lot more fun,” noting that abstaining from drinking has enhanced his enjoyment of performances. “You save all that actual hardcore partying for the 90 minutes on stage, and not afterwards, so it’s even better,” he said. Wilson added that he now finds himself laughing more and savoring the moment during shows, while also feeling motivated to face the day after rather than wanting to stay under the covers.

Kaiser Chiefs, known for their breakthrough hit “I Predict A Riot,” continue to tour extensively this summer, appearing at festivals across the UK. To accompany their upcoming performances, Wilson has partnered with temporary car insurance provider Tempcover to launch a tool designed to help fans find the most scenic routes for their travels this festival season.
