Former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to campaign alongside Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed next week as part of the party’s efforts to galvanize voters in a pivotal battleground state ahead of the November midterm elections. This appearance will mark the first time Harris and El-Sayed share a public stage since she endorsed him following his primary victory.

The campaign event will include a roundtable discussion centered on Black maternal health, highlighting an issue closely linked to El-Sayed’s background. As a physician and former head of health departments in Detroit and Wayne County, El-Sayed has emphasized healthcare in his campaign.

Harris, who has maintained communication with El-Sayed since endorsing him, will return to Michigan to support efforts aimed at flipping the Senate. Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris, stated that her visit reflects a broader strategy to increase voter turnout in key states and address economic concerns, including inflation and what the campaign terms “Donald Trump’s corruption.”

In the general election, El-Sayed will face Republican nominee Mike Rogers, a former U.S. representative. Michigan’s Senate race is viewed as a critical contest in the overall battle for control of the Senate, with both parties investing significant resources into voter outreach and mobilization efforts.
