Kamilla Cardoso, center for the Chicago Sky, has demonstrated a notable progression in her performance, emerging as a consistent scoring and rebounding presence in recent weeks. After breaking a WNBA record for most field goals without a miss earlier this week, Cardoso tallied 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting in Sunday’s 107-99 loss to the Las Vegas Aces. Her strong showing came against A’ja Wilson, the Aces’ star forward and reigning Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Wilson praised Cardoso’s footwork and ability to position herself effectively in traffic, drawing a comparison to former Sky star Sylvia Fowles. “Kamilla’s footwork is one of the best ever,” Wilson said. “It reminds me of Sylvia Fowles, the way that she can be light on her feet and how she positions herself. Seeing her growth from rookie year to now has been fun.”

Over the past five games, Cardoso has averaged 21.8 points and 9.4 rebounds while shooting an efficient 75% from the field. Although much of her scoring comes from high-percentage shots near the basket, she has increasingly finished from difficult angles, often maneuvering on the move and scoring through heavy defensive traffic. This marks a significant improvement from her first two seasons, when her field goal percentage was closer to 50%.

Cardoso attributes her recent success to the guidance of her coaches and support from teammates, along with dedicated work on refining the finer points of her game. Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh highlighted the center’s growing composure as a factor in her consistency. “She’s done a really good job of not getting frustrated when things aren’t going her way, whether that’s missed touches, foul calls, or defensive challenges,” Marsh said. “She’s been really conscious of not letting those moments affect her overall play, which has allowed her to stay more engaged and present.”

Marsh added that when Cardoso plays at her current level, she ranks among the league’s best bigs due to her unique skill set. “She does things a lot of other post players can’t do, and now she’s doing them more consistently,” he said.

Consistency has been a question mark for Cardoso throughout the season, as she has alternated between dominant performances and less impactful stretches. However, the recent trend suggests she is transitioning into a dependable All-Star caliber player, signaling a significant step forward in her professional development.
