Kandy Kings strengthened their hold on the top spot in Group A of the inaugural Sri Lanka Tennis Premier League 2026 with a decisive 44-20 victory over Kurunegala Royals at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo on Sunday. Meanwhile, in the closest contest of the day, Weligama Warriors narrowly defeated Jaffna Flamingos 36-35 in Group B action.
Thehan Wijemanne was a standout performer for Kandy Kings, delivering a dominant 6-0 win against Ganuka Fernando in the Men’s Singles. He then paired with Mineth Nawaratne to secure a 6-4 victory over Fernando and Saha Kapilasena in the Men’s Doubles. Mayya Banagala contributed with a 6-1 win over Jennifer Mercy in the Under-15 Girls’ Singles, while Dehan Wickramasinghe claimed a 6-2 victory against Eshan Bandara in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles. The pair of Nawaratne and Tuvini de Alwis also triumphed 6-4 in the Mixed Doubles over Saha Kapilasena and Biyanka Acquistapace. Kurunegala’s Biyanka Acquistapace earned a narrow 7-6 win against Savini Jayasuriya in the Women’s Singles.
In Group B’s tightly contested match, Weligama Warriors edged Jaffna Flamingos by a single point. Yuhansa Peiris played a key role for Weligama, topping Ianali Manamperi 6-4 in the Women’s Singles, then teaming up with Harieshwar Parameshwaran for a 7-5 Mixed Doubles win over Manamperi and Aravind Fernando. Additional points came from Aahil Kaleel and Parameshwaran’s Men’s Doubles victory. Jaffna fought back with Muzammil Murtaza overcoming Kaleel 6-2 in Men’s Singles and Damsath Peiris beating Chirath Subasinghe 6-3 in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles. Risindi Hewawasam secured the Under-15 Girls’ Singles win for Weligama, beating Samaira Fernando 6-4.
Batticaloa Aces recorded a 35-31 win against Colombo Chargers. Sandithi Usgodaarachchi began strongly with a 6-4 win over Annaya Norbert in the Women’s Singles. Sayuri Mututhanthiri and Udeera Gunasinghe followed with convincing wins in the Under-15 Girls’ and Boys’ Singles respectively. Although Colombo’s Aqeel Khan defeated Barkat Ullah 7-5 in the Men’s Singles and later helped Annaya Norbert to a 6-0 Mixed Doubles sweep, Batticaloa closed the match with a 6-3 victory in the Men’s Doubles by Jaitra de Seram and Barkat Ullah.
Negombo Icons edged Nuwara Eliya Highlanders 34-31 in another close encounter. Akesha Silva secured a 7-6 win over Gehansa Methnadi in the Women’s Singles for Negombo, while Irfan Husain responded for Nuwara Eliya with a 6-1 Men’s Singles win. Eliza Kahagalla added an Under-15 Girls’ Singles win for Negombo, but Nuwara Eliya’s Revan Amarasinghe triumphed 6-3 in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles. The Mixed Doubles went to Negombo's Dilvan Herath and Akesha Silva with a 6-2 win, while Nuwara Eliya took the Men’s Doubles.
After the completion of Day Two, Kandy Kings lead Group A with 86 points, followed by Batticaloa Aces with 70, Colombo Chargers at 67, and Kurunegala Royals on 53. In Group B, Jaffna Flamingos top the leaderboard with 78 points, with Negombo Icons (68), Weligama Warriors (65), and Nuwara Eliya Highlanders (63) closely contesting behind them.
