Karolina Muchova of Czechia secured a hard-fought victory over American Coco Gauff to reach the women’s singles final at Wimbledon on July 11. The 10th-seeded Muchova triumphed in a tense three-set match on Centre Court, prevailing 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (12-10) under sweltering conditions.
Muchova started strongly, taking the first set comfortably. However, Gauff responded with a powerful surge in the second set, dominating 6-1 to level the match and push the contest into a decisive third set. Despite ongoing difficulties with her serve, Muchova managed to maintain composure against Gauff, the tournament’s most successful remaining player in terms of major titles.
The final set unfolded with high drama as both players fought intensely. In the tiebreaker, Gauff held a match point at 9-8 on her own serve but failed to convert after a softly tapped drop shot landed in the net. Muchova then earned a match point at 10-9 on her serve but slipped attempting a volley that might have ended the match. Ultimately, Muchova capitalized on a second chance during Gauff’s next service opportunity, sealing the win 12-10 in the tiebreak.
This marks Muchova’s second appearance in a Grand Slam final; she previously reached the final at the 2023 French Open but fell short of the title. Her victory means she will face her fellow Czech Linda Noskova in the Wimbledon final. Noskova advanced by defeating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in straight sets.
The upcoming final guarantees a new Wimbledon women’s singles champion, who will become the 10th different player to claim the title in the last decade.
