Palace sources emphasized that this autumn’s program is not a response to the recent return of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the United Kingdom. Despite the Sussexes reportedly preparing their own public engagements, they remain outside the working royal family and will not hold any “half in, half out” roles. A source highlighted that these events require months or even years of preparation, describing the upcoming months as “business as usual” for the senior royals.
Prince Harry is expected to attend the Well-Child awards ceremony in September, one of several appearances he plans following the couple’s unexpected move back to the UK. This relocation surprised many, as Harry had previously stated that it was too dangerous for his family to return. His ongoing legal battle to restore his UK police protection, which he lost in May 2025, continues with a recent appeal to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. Harry’s legal team alleges that the head of Ravec, the advisory committee on royal security, failed to inform him about a 2023 al-Qaeda threat, which was also reportedly not communicated to his security team or U.S. authorities while he was living abroad. The prime minister, Andy Burnham, declined to comment on the Sussexes’ security arrangements, describing them as a “private matter.”
