Mike Tindall, former England Rugby Union player and husband of Zara Tindall, has revealed that the Royal Family enjoys playing a competitive version of beer pong at gatherings. Speaking about the family’s strong sporting spirit, Tindall described how the game has been given a refined twist, with participants aiming to land ping-pong balls into glasses of Prosecco instead of beer.
Tindall, who is married to Zara Tindall—Princess Anne’s daughter and an Olympic silver medalist in team eventing—highlighted the deep-rooted passion for sport within the royals. Zara herself competed at the 2012 London Olympics, while her mother, Princess Anne, rode in the 1976 Montreal Games. According to Tindall, the Prince and Princess of Wales also demonstrate a notable competitive drive during official engagements.
In an interview, Tindall said the family’s enthusiasm for sport is apparent and widespread. He recounted participating in a podcast with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Princess Anne, where their collective love of sports was discussed. He also shared that the Princess of Wales—Kate Middleton—is “uber competitive,” a trait he has observed firsthand during their social occasions.
“Our drinking game has been elevated,” Tindall explained, noting the substitution of beer with Prosecco for a more sophisticated version of pong. Despite the change, the competitiveness remains intense, with Middleton continuing to participate enthusiastically.
These insights offer a glimpse behind the scenes at the Royal Family’s informal moments, underscoring how sport and friendly rivalry are fixtures not only in their public lives but also in their private celebrations.
