Katy Perry’s concert film, shot during her Lifetimes tour in Paris, has performed poorly at the UK box office, generating just £21,000 from a limited theatrical release earlier this month. The film, reportedly produced at a cost of around £4 million, was screened in approximately 150 cinemas and IMAX theaters across the United Kingdom but attracted sparse audiences. At some showings, such as one in Leeds, no tickets were sold, while others, including a screening in Coventry, drew only a handful of viewers.

Industry insiders described the film’s box office returns as disappointing, noting that ticket sales would not cover production expenses. The concert motion picture was intended to capitalize on the live success of Perry’s Lifetimes tour, which sold over one million tickets across 91 dates worldwide last year. However, the film failed to replicate this live popularity on the big screen.

Financial returns from the concert film outside the UK have also been modest. In New Zealand, it earned approximately £844, and in Colombia, around £3,700. Box office figures for the United States have not been disclosed. In comparison, Taylor Swift’s 2023 concert film, filmed during her Eras tour, grossed £12 million in the UK alone and amassed £198 million worldwide, setting a record as the highest-grossing concert film to date.

Audience turnout was notably weak in several key venues. In Milton Keynes, an IMAX venue screened the film twice to total attendance of 27 people. Similarly low attendance was reported in Edinburgh, with just 17 tickets sold for two screenings, and at London’s Leicester Square Vue cinema, where only 42 of 201 available tickets were purchased.

The disappointing box office performance marks a significant decline for Perry, who rose to superstardom with her 2010 album Teenage Dream, which tied Michael Jackson’s record for most US No. 1 singles from a single album. Perry’s most recent album, 143, released in 2024, received largely negative reviews. Additionally, her live performances on the Lifetimes tour received mixed reactions, with some online commentary unfavorably comparing her dancing to amateur talent shows.

Perry, 41, gained media attention last year for participating in an all-female Blue Origin spaceflight and is currently in a relationship with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
