Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs has allocated more than KD 11.5 million in financial aid to support divorced women, widows, and housewives, according to recent official figures. The funds were distributed through the Family Welfare Department within the Social Development General Department, reflecting the government's ongoing commitment to enhance social welfare and stabilize living conditions for vulnerable citizens.

The breakdown of the aid highlights that housewives received the largest share, totaling KD 7,625,021.04. Divorced women were allocated KD 3,093,501.59, while widows were provided with KD 788,256.73 in assistance. These allocations are part of broader efforts to ensure targeted support for groups facing economic challenges due to social circumstances.

In a separate development, Minister of Social, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah addressed the appointment of new board members in various cooperative societies. She noted that these appointments, conducted under Article 35 of the relevant legal framework, aim to correct existing issues, address violations, and strengthen oversight to protect shareholders’ assets and consumers’ interests.

During a meeting with the newly appointed board members on Wednesday, Dr. Al-Huwailah emphasized that appointed members do not hold preferential status over elected members. Instead, she said their role comes with heightened responsibility based on the trust endowed by the state. The minister clarified that these appointments are intended to support reform initiatives, enhance monitoring of compliance, and facilitate investigations where necessary, rather than to replace or undermine elected boards.

Dr. Al-Huwailah reaffirmed that adherence to laws, regulations, and decisions governing cooperative societies’ functioning is mandatory. The measures align with the government’s broader strategy to promote good governance and transparency within public institutions.
