A managing director of a fertiliser company in Kedah was released on bail following a remand related to delays in distributing Baja 3 fertiliser to padi farmers in the state. The individual, aged in his 30s, was held in remand until September 16 as part of an ongoing investigation.

Upon the conclusion of the remand period, the managing director was granted bail by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and is now required to report monthly to the Kedah MACC office. He must also appear whenever summoned to assist further with the investigation.

The probe was initiated after the Malaysian Padi Farmers Brotherhood Association lodged a complaint on August 26 concerning delays in the supply of additional Baja 3 fertiliser to padi farmers in Kedah. The state MACC responded by opening an investigation into the matter, focusing on a company appointed by the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

This company was responsible for supplying fertiliser to the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area, which spans approximately 100,000 hectares and is a key rice-producing region in Kedah. Kedah MACC director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong confirmed the managing director’s release on bail but did not provide further details about the investigation's progress.

The investigation aims to determine the cause of the delays in fertiliser distribution and whether any wrongdoing or mismanagement occurred in the procurement or supply process. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, given the critical importance of timely fertiliser delivery to support local padi farmers and sustain rice production in the region.
