Keith David, the prolific actor and voice artist known for his distinctive voice and commanding presence, continues to expand his extensive body of work with multiple projects underway. Celebrated for his versatility across film, television, stage, and voice-over roles, David has built a career spanning more than four decades since his professional debut in the late 1970s.
A Juilliard-trained performer, David first gained wide recognition in John Carpenter’s 1982 film “The Thing” and has since appeared in notable movies such as “Platoon” and “Nope.” He has also made his mark on television, with recent roles including the series “Duster” and “Greenleaf.” On stage, he earned a Tony nomination for his performance in the 1992 Broadway production of “Jelly’s Last Jam.”

Most recently, David’s role as President Curtis has been expanded into a new spinoff series titled “President Curtis,” which airs on Adult Swim and streams on HBO Max. Created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, the show offers a fresh take on the character, positioning him as a more action-oriented and civic-minded figure navigating extraordinary challenges across space and time. The series blends elements of science fiction with grounded storytelling, featuring Curtis engaging in high-stakes scenarios ranging from intergalactic sports events to battles with mythical creatures.
Dan Harmon praised David’s work ethic and vocal talents, noting the actor’s meticulous preparation and ability to deliver compelling performances in a single take. Harmon first collaborated with David on “Community,” where he provided narration for an episode inspired by documentary style.
In addition to his work on “President Curtis,” David is currently starring in “The Hawk,” a golf comedy on Netflix featuring Will Ferrell, and filming the second season of “The Lowdown,” a critically acclaimed series created by Sterlin Harjo. “The Lowdown” is set in Tulsa and explores underrepresented Native and Black cultures. David expressed enthusiasm for the show’s unique storytelling, which has also afforded him the opportunity to play a detective—one of his long-held aspirations. He will continue in a similar vein with a lead role in the forthcoming NBC sitcom, “Sunset P.I.,” which centers on a sleuthing protagonist.
