At least 22 people were killed and 24 others injured when a bus collided with a truck on a major highway in Kenya on Sunday morning, authorities reported. The crash occurred on the highway connecting Nairobi, the capital, with the coastal city of Mombasa.

The injured were taken to Mtito Andei hospital, where they were receiving medical treatment, according to Paul Kisienya, the facility’s medical superintendent.

The passengers had been returning to Mombasa after attending the funeral of their church pastor in western Kenya when the collision took place. A survivor, Spenza Mudave, described the incident, stating that the truck struck the bus from behind, causing it to overturn.

This accident comes just three weeks after another fatal crash on the same highway resulted in 17 deaths, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety along this heavily traveled route. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sunday’s collision.
