A 24-year-old Indian expatriate was killed in a road accident involving an electric scooter and a four-wheel-drive vehicle in Fujairah last week, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The victim has been identified as Reswin Rasheed Thelikunnel.
According to Fujairah Police, Thelikunnel was riding his electric scooter when he crossed the road at a non-designated area, which was deemed a violation of traffic regulations. He was subsequently struck by an SUV driven by a woman in her 50s, who is a Gulf national.
Emergency services responded promptly to the incident following a police report, but Thelikunnel was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transferred to a hospital. The woman driving the vehicle was detained for questioning, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
Indian media reports indicated that Reswin Rasheed Thelikunnel was originally from Kerala and was employed at a food outlet in Fujairah. The accident occurred while he was returning from work. According to these reports, Thelikunnel was scheduled to return to India next month for his wedding.
Efforts to obtain comments from the victim’s family were not successful.
