At 18 years old, Rinsha Mariyam is carving out a promising path in European women’s football after moving to Portugal at the age of 15 to pursue her ambitions. Originally from Bengaluru, with family roots in Kerala, Rinsha currently plays for Clube de Albergaria’s Under-19 women’s team in Portugal’s top youth league. She competes against some of the country’s leading clubs, including Benfica and Sporting CP, gaining valuable experience in a highly competitive environment.

Rinsha’s decision to relocate abroad at such a young age involved significant challenges. Her father, MP Rasheed, highlighted the difficulties his daughter faced adapting to a new culture, language, climate, and education system. “At 15, most teenagers spend their time at school and with family, but Rinsha had to leave all that behind to follow her football dream,” he said.

Despite these obstacles, Rinsha successfully integrated into a local school, learned Portuguese, and completed her higher secondary education while maintaining a rigorous training schedule. Her father praised her focus and determination, noting that once she commits to a goal, she puts forth her full effort.

Rasheed also emphasized the role of family support in Rinsha’s journey. Coming from a football-loving household, the family encouraged her aspirations from an early age. He stressed the belief that daughters can achieve great things when given the right encouragement and opportunities.

Rinsha’s progression reflects a broader trend of Indian footballers exploring opportunities overseas to develop their skills and gain exposure to higher levels of competition. Her experience highlights both the personal sacrifices and the rewards involved in pursuing a professional sports career internationally at a young age. As she continues to compete in Portugal’s youth leagues, Rinsha aims to build on her achievements and progress further in European football.
