Authorities continue to search for three main suspects involved in a series of incidents involving attempts to seize property, vandalism, and looting in Dhaka. Despite multiple arrests, Mostaker Rahman Khokon Chowdhury, Khurshid Alam Khan, and Hanif Mia remain at large, with police ongoing efforts to apprehend them.
The incidents span different locations and occurred in late September. On September 26, a large group of several hundred people forcibly took control of a plot in Chand Udyan, vandalizing an office, stealing cash, equipment, and documents, and fencing off the property. The incident happened around 10 a.m., just 100 feet from a local beat-policing office. Ten people, including Khokon, were named as suspects, along with 20 to 25 unidentified individuals. To date, nine suspects have been arrested in relation to the case. Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Halim said authorities are actively pursuing the remaining accused. Khokon, who has ties to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been evading arrest by moving between Mirpur and Kafrul. However, Khokon denied allegations, stating he was not in hiding and had visited Chand Udyan recently, asserting his innocence and pointing to his residence next to the disputed plot.
In another incident in Shyamoli Housing, Adabor, a group of 15 to 20 armed men reportedly attempted to seize control of a multi-storey building early on September 26. The men used machetes and other weapons to break into the property, according to closed-circuit television footage. Police have arrested 10 individuals in connection to the event, but Khurshid Alam Khan, identified as a vice-president of the pro-BNP Ramna Thana Zia Parishad, remains overseas. Local police confirmed that efforts to extradite or apprehend him are underway.
On September 25, more than 200 masked persons raided the Radda Maternal and Child Health-Family Planning Centre (MCH-FP) in Mirpur-1. They detained two security guards, looted medical supplies including vaccines and equipment, and caused extensive damage to the facility using heavy machinery. Hanif Mia, a former BNP member from Dhaka North City, was named as the primary suspect in the case, which is currently under investigation. Authorities have arrested 12 suspects but continue to search for Hanif.
Additionally, a separate dispute unfolded on the night of September 26 in the ECB Chattar area at the New Gini Properties housing project. Approximately 200 to 250 individuals attacked and damaged Salman Muqtadir’s BrownFish Studio, the real estate company's office, and an under-construction structure. Preliminary inquiries indicated the conflict centered on a property disagreement between the real estate company and retired Major General Golam Mohiuddin, who police previously identified as instigating the attack. Although six people have been arrested, including the primary accused Shahriar Mahmud, Golam Mohiuddin has not been apprehended. Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge Gias Uddin said that police remain actively engaged in locating the remaining suspects.
All three key suspects in the major incidents—Khokon, Khurshid, and Hanif—are linked politically to the BNP, according to multiple sources. Police officials have pledged continued efforts to bring them into custody amid concerns over the scale and audacity of the recent property-related violence and criminal acts in Dhaka.
