The Technical Committee of the Municipal Council, chaired by Munira Al-Amir, approved several key requests during its 36th meeting of the fourth session held on June 24 in Kuwait City. Among the decisions, the committee granted the Kuwait General Administration of Customs (KGAC) permission to expand the Nuwaiseeb border crossing area by 1,420,000 square meters. This expansion aims to accommodate the growing volume of vehicles crossing the border and to enhance logistical operations.
In addition to the Nuwaiseeb expansion, committee members discussed the potential for a similar enlargement of the Salmi border crossing in the future, although no formal decision was made on this matter during the meeting.
The committee also approved a proposal from the Ministry of Interior to reallocate the land designated for the Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Coast Guard Base. The base is situated on the northern artificial island along Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Causeway. This reallocation is part of broader efforts to optimize the use of strategic coastal infrastructure.
Further approvals included the annexation of state-owned land adjacent to a plot in Sharq, Block Eight, intended to support urban development in the area.
Conversely, the committee decided to postpone the proposal presented by Municipal Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Muhairi to allow women’s salons to include the sale of cosmetics and beauty products among their permitted business activities. No specific reasons for the shelving of this proposal were detailed.
The committee also acknowledged a letter from the Ministry of Interior inviting members to attend the meeting, underscoring continued coordination between municipal authorities and security agencies.
These decisions reflect ongoing efforts by Kuwaiti authorities to improve border management and urban planning to support the country’s evolving logistical and commercial needs.
