Khaitan secured their place in the group stage of the Crown Prince Cup following a decisive 4-0 victory over Police Union on Thursday. The match took place at Abdullah Al-Khalifa Stadium and marked Police Union’s debut in Kuwait Football Association competitions.
Khaitan established control early on, with Turki Al-Shammari opening the scoring in the 10th minute. The lead was extended in the 38th minute when Dhahi Al-Shammari added a second goal for the team. In the second half, Ibrahima Gaye contributed two late goals in the 72nd and 83rd minutes to complete the win and confirm Khaitan’s progression under the tournament’s revised format.
The Crown Prince Cup now features a group stage divided into three groups. Khaitan will compete in Group A against Salmiya, Al-Jahra, and Al-Yarmouk. Group B consists of Al-Fahaheel, Al-Shabab, Al-Sahel, and Burgan, while Group C features Al-Tadamon, Al-Nasr, Al-Sulaibikhat, and Al-Jazira.
According to the new structure, the winners of each group, along with the best second-placed team across all groups, will move on to the quarterfinals. These advancing teams will be joined by Kuwait SC, Al-Arabi, Al-Qadsia, and Kazma, who secured the top four positions in last season’s Zain Premier League.
