Manchester City has secured the future of defender Abdukodir Khusanov by signing the 22-year-old to a new five-year contract extension, the Premier League club confirmed. The deal, signed on July 26, will keep Khusanov at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.

Khusanov joined Manchester City from French club Lens in January 2025. Since his arrival, he has played a role in the club’s recent successes, including their runner-up finish in the Premier League last season and victories in both the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Internationally, Khusanov is an established member of the Uzbekistan national team, having earned 30 caps. He participated in all three of Uzbekistan’s matches during the recent FIFA World Cup in Group K.

In a statement, Khusanov expressed his satisfaction with the contract extension, highlighting his commitment to continuing his development under new manager Enzo Maresca. “I’ve enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester and I feel I am growing and learning a lot as a player,” he said. He added that his focus now is to secure a regular place in Maresca’s team and contribute to the club’s ongoing success. Khusanov also acknowledged the support from Manchester City’s fans, noting the positive impact it has had during his adaptation to English football.

Manchester City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, praised Khusanov’s progression since joining the club. He described the defender as an outstanding prospect with both physical and technical qualities necessary to become a world-class centre-back. “At just 22, his best years are all in front of him and his potential to get even better is clear for all to see,” Viana said. He expressed optimism that Khusanov would play a significant role in manager Enzo Maresca’s plans moving forward.
