Kuwait International Bank (KIB) reported significant advancements in its Retail Banking Department’s digital services during the first half of 2026, underscoring the institution’s ongoing investment in enhancing its technological infrastructure and customer service capabilities.
Driven by the adoption of global best practices and emerging technologies, KIB expanded its digital offerings to provide customers with faster, more accessible, and convenient financial management options. The bank’s efforts reflect a strategic focus on innovation to maintain its competitive position within Kuwait’s banking sector.
Nawaf Al-Khrayef, Deputy General Manager of Retail Banking at KIB, emphasized the importance of integrating advanced technologies to respond to evolving customer needs. He noted that continuous market research and customer insights play a critical role in shaping the bank’s service enhancements, allowing KIB to introduce solutions that improve ease of use and value.
During the first six months of 2026, the number of bank accounts opened via the KIB Mobile application doubled compared to the same period last year. Similarly, investment deposit openings through the app also increased twofold. Key upgrades to the mobile platform included instant credit card issuance secured against cash collateral, a redesigned user interface, simplified onboarding procedures, and improved functionalities on the WAGE app tailored for workers.
KIB also broadened its digital transfer services, facilitating both local and international transactions with greater efficiency. The bank’s Rewards Program was enhanced by integrating cashback and loyalty points into a single digital platform. Transaction volume was robust, with WAMD processing 660,000 operations and Western Union and Fast Transfer channels registering activities valued at KD 107,000 and KD 789,000, respectively.
Expanding its physical footprint, KIB increased its ATM network to 141 machines nationwide, up from 125 in the first half of 2025. This network supported a record transaction value of KD 65 million in cash withdrawals and KD 23 million in deposits, highlighting the growing reliance on self-service banking.
Customer support remains a priority, with the Bank Contact Center handling 152,000 calls during the period. Voice service interactions reached 15,000, and 13,500 video calls were completed via Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs). Additional communication channels, including live chat on the mobile app and website, video chat, and WhatsApp service, offer customers round-the-clock assistance. Social media engagement also increased, with approximately 15,000 interactions driven by content aimed at educating customers on banking products and industry insights.
KIB, operating under Islamic Shari’ah principles since 2007 and originally established in 1973 as Kuwait Real Estate Bank, continues to pursue its “Bank for Life” strategy. The bank combines a broad branch network across Kuwait with a growing suite of digital banking solutions to deliver comprehensive services aligned with international standards. These initiatives reinforce KIB’s commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and maintaining strong financial performance within the local banking sector.
