Two brothers who attempted to kidnap a man in South London were sentenced to over seven years in prison after police intervened during the ordeal. The incident began when Ali Almafraji was lured to a Nando’s restaurant under the pretense of a date with a woman. Upon meeting him, brothers Bilal and Zachariya Rakik forced him into his car at gunpoint, using an imitation firearm to threaten him.

The kidnappers initially demanded a £30,000 ransom from Almafraji’s friends. However, when it became apparent that they could not raise the requested amount, the brothers reduced their demand to £2,000. Eventually, one friend notified the authorities, prompting police to track the moving vehicle.

Officers staged a rescue operation, successfully securing Almafraji’s release. The two men were subsequently arrested and sentenced to terms exceeding seven years each. The victim endured a distressing experience but has since been reported to be recovering.

The case highlights both the dangers of criminal schemes targeting individuals through deception and the importance of timely police involvement in such situations.
