The trainer expressed some concern about the ground conditions, hoping they do not become too firm, although rider Rossa Ryan reported that the Newmarket track "rode like a carpet" during Thursday’s gallop. King added that the horse prefers to settle into a strong rhythm and that the summer’s careful handling was specifically to preserve performance on such ground.

Alcarath and Ryan will face a strong challenge from Gavriel, the ante-post favorite, who represents the John and Thady Gosden stable. Gavriel gained attention after a decisive victory over Balzac at Ascot earlier this month, positioning the horse as a leading contender to join the list of previous Gosden-trained winners, which includes Wissahickon, Lord North, Tazeez, and Pipedreamer. Tom Goff, who manages the European bloodstock interests for Gavriel’s owner, George Strawbridge, characterized the horse as lightly raced and having performed consistently well but acknowledged that the Cambridgeshire presents a significant test.
