Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to international peace and security through its participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly, the Kingdom’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated on September 21, 2026. Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency in New York, Prince Faisal emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s engagement at the UN reflects its ongoing efforts to promote dialogue, mediation, and cooperative approaches to addressing both regional and global challenges.
This year’s General Assembly session, held under themes referencing the importance of unity and trust in international institutions, was seen by the Kingdom as an opportunity to reiterate the foundational principles of the United Nations and other multilateral organizations. These include supporting peace and security, strengthening adherence to international laws and norms, and enhancing international cooperation to manage crises effectively.
Prince Faisal highlighted the Kingdom’s focus on key issues such as the respect for state sovereignty, peaceful dispute resolution, and maintaining safety and freedom of navigation through international waterways—a point of particular relevance given ongoing regional tensions. The minister pointed to Saudi Arabia’s active role in multilateral diplomacy, including its recent hosting of efforts like the Jeddah peace talks on Ukraine in 2023 and mediation initiatives related to conflict in Gaza and other parts of the Middle East.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia is placing attention on sustainable development with an emphasis on the responsible use and governance of artificial intelligence technologies. As the nation marks 2026 as its Year of Artificial Intelligence, the Kingdom aims to explore how AI can enhance sector efficiencies, innovation, and deliver tangible benefits while engaging in global discussions about the ethical and secure deployment of emerging technologies.
