Saudi Arabia intensified its commitment to Yemen’s reconstruction efforts in the second quarter of 2026 by launching a series of development, infrastructure, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at promoting economic recovery. These projects, overseen by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, targeted eight critical sectors with an emphasis on enhancing human capital, essential services, and infrastructure.
During this period, the Kingdom provided $150 million in urgent petroleum derivatives to support power generation stations across several Yemeni governorates. This assistance was designed to sustain key services and stimulate local commerce by improving electricity availability. Since the beginning of 2026, the program has initiated a total of SR1.9 billion (approximately $506 million) in development projects, alongside direct budgetary support to help maintain government operations and public sector salaries.
In Hadramout, construction began on two 100-megawatt power plants located in the coastal and valley areas of the governorate, with the goal of strengthening the region’s electricity supply. The power plants are expected to contribute significantly to easing the chronic energy shortages that have hindered economic and social activity.
Collaboration with international organizations also featured prominently during this quarter. The Saudi program partnered with UN-Habitat on the second phase of the Adequate Housing Initiative, which plans to rehabilitate 620 homes in the cities of Aden, Taiz, and Lahj. Additionally, a joint water security project was launched in Marib. This initiative employs solar-powered systems combined with modern distribution networks and the installation of seven water tanks, aiming to provide clean drinking water to over 368,000 residents.
Agriculture and food security received targeted support through a new program aimed at assisting 2,300 smallholder farming families in the Abyan, Marib, and Hadramout governorates. The program seeks to enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to the overall stability of food supplies in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive approach reflects its ongoing efforts to support Yemen’s recovery amid continued challenges, focusing on critical infrastructure, essential services, and sustainable development to address both immediate needs and long-term stability.
