The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and the National Industries Company (NIC) formalized a partnership on Monday through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing innovation in Kuwait’s construction and infrastructure sectors. The agreement aligns with the goals of Kuwait Vision 2035 to diversify the economy and promote sustainable development.
KISR Director General Dr. Faisal Al-Humaidan emphasized that the MoU reflects the institute’s commitment to fostering strategic collaborations that harness scientific research to address practical development challenges. The partnership is designed to enhance cooperation in applied research, facilitate the exchange of scientific and technical expertise, and develop new building materials and construction technologies.
A key objective of the agreement is to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the construction industry by localizing building materials, raising their quality to meet international standards, and reducing reliance on imported products. Dr. Al-Humaidan highlighted that this effort would support the national economy by increasing added value within local industries.
The MoU also includes programs focused on developing national talent through field training and exchanging knowledge between KISR researchers and NIC specialists. This initiative aims to create a more dynamic research environment by integrating scientific inquiry with industrial expertise, thereby accelerating technology transfer and transforming research outcomes into commercially viable solutions.
According to Dr. Al-Humaidan, the collaboration is expected to yield tangible results, including lower construction costs through innovative locally developed solutions, greater employment opportunities for Kuwaiti professionals, and a reduced carbon footprint for construction projects. These outcomes are intended to contribute to Kuwait’s environmental sustainability commitments.
The signing ceremony was attended by Marzouq Buarki, Deputy CEO for Factories at NIC, along with other officials and researchers from both organizations, underscoring the importance placed on this partnership by stakeholders in Kuwait’s scientific and industrial sectors.
