Three newborn kittens were saved from an industrial shredder at a maintenance yard on Long Island after workers heard distressing sounds coming from the machinery. The incident occurred Thursday at a facility in Oyster Bay, where employees responded promptly to what they described as “screams” emanating from the equipment.

Maintenance workers disassembled the shredder to investigate the noise and discovered three small black kittens trapped inside. The animals, reportedly only days old, were in immediate danger when spotted.

John Debacker, a 33-year-old animal rescuer and Bellmore resident, was called to the scene and arrived swiftly to assist in the rescue. Details regarding the kittens’ condition following the extraction were not disclosed, but the quick actions of the staff prevented what could have been a fatal outcome.

The event underscores the importance of careful inspection and regular monitoring of industrial machinery, especially in environments where small animals may seek shelter. Efforts to reunite the kittens with their mother or secure proper care are expected to follow, though no further updates have been released at this time.
