Jurgen Klopp’s agent has dismissed speculation linking the former Liverpool manager with a potential return to coaching at Real Madrid, following claims made by a presidential candidate in the Spanish club’s ongoing election.

Enrique Riquelme, who is contesting the Real Madrid presidency against incumbent Florentino Perez, announced on Friday that Klopp would be his preferred choice to lead the team if he wins Sunday’s vote. Riquelme’s campaign emphasized the unique challenge and prestige of managing Real Madrid, stating that while Klopp has declined other offers, the opportunity to manage the Spanish giants could be different.

Klopp, who left Liverpool in the summer of 2024 after nearly nine years in charge, has been on a break from direct coaching duties since his departure. He currently serves as the global head of soccer for the Red Bull group, a role that reflects his continued involvement in the sport without the daily demands of club management. His enduring connection to Liverpool has seen him publicly rule out managing other English clubs, underscoring his loyalty to the club where he achieved substantial success.

Responding to Riquelme’s overture, Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, described the reports as “annoying,” reaffirming that Klopp is content with his current position and has no plans to return to coaching at this stage. Kosicke’s statement clarified that despite the recurring rumors, Klopp remains focused on his responsibilities with Red Bull and does not intend to take on a managerial role at any club in the immediate future.

Riquelme’s office had pointed to Klopp’s history of turning down coaching offers and suggested that Real Madrid’s stature might present a unique proposition that could entice him back to the dugout. They pledged that, in the event of Riquelme’s election victory, club sporting director Raul Gonzalez Blanco would reach out to Klopp on Monday, June 8, to discuss the vision Riquelme’s team has for the club’s future and formally invite Klopp to lead the team.

The Real Madrid presidential election, held on June 7, has thus become a focal point not only for the club’s leadership but also for speculation about its managerial future. Whether Klopp’s name will feature prominently in Real Madrid’s coaching plans remains uncertain, with official representatives maintaining that he is unlikely to return to direct coaching at this time.
