A 26-year-old woman was charged with assault after allegedly stabbing a fellow commuter during a dispute on a Brooklyn subway platform Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. at the Jay Street–MetroTech station, where the victim, a 44-year-old woman, had just exited an R train.

According to authorities, the two women became engaged in a heated argument that escalated when the suspect, identified as Jahylah Blondel of Staten Island, produced a knife and slashed the victim on her left shoulder. The victim was transported to NYU Langone Health–Cobble Hill with injuries described as minor.

Blondel initially fled the scene but surrendered to police approximately 30 minutes later at around 10:10 a.m. She faced multiple charges, including felony and misdemeanor assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault, and harassment, as outlined in the complaint filed in Brooklyn Criminal Court. Law enforcement officials noted that Blondel has no prior arrests in New York City.

Despite prosecutors’ request for a $10,000 cash bail or a $20,000 bond, Judge Masateru Marubashi released Blondel on her own recognizance. The decision allowed her to remain free while the case proceeds. The district attorney’s office confirmed the charges but did not provide further comment on the incident. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
