Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals on Wednesday with a straight-sets victory over Jasmine Paolini, setting up a clash with Czech ninth seed Linda Noskova. Kostyuk won 6-3, 6-2 in just 69 minutes on Centre Court, marking her first appearance in the Wimbledon semi-finals and putting her one match away from reaching a maiden Grand Slam final.

Following the win, Kostyuk reflected on her experience at the All England Club, recalling a moment nine years earlier when she had watched Roger Federer play as a spectator. The 24-year-old was visibly moved by returning to Centre Court as a competitor and noted the significance of the occasion.

Kostyuk, seeded 12th, has been in strong form recently, suffering just one loss in her last 22 matches—a semi-final defeat to eventual champion Mirra Andreeva at the French Open last month. By contrast, Paolini, a former Wimbledon runner-up, failed to replicate the level shown during her earlier tournament rounds and exited at the quarter-final stage of a major for the first time.

In the other quarter-final match on Wednesday, Noskova, who is the highest remaining seed in the bottom half following the early departures of top players Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina, defeated Belgium’s Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-5. Mertens, seeded 25th and making her first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance since 2020, put up a strong fight but ultimately could not withstand Noskova’s powerful groundstrokes.

The 21-year-old Czech player, who recently claimed her second WTA title in Berlin, is making her breakthrough at Wimbledon with this semi-final berth, marking her best performance at a major to date. She acknowledged the challenge Kostyuk presents ahead, noting that their upcoming match would be tough, given Kostyuk’s impressive playing ability. Kostyuk holds the advantage in their head-to-head meetings, having defeated Noskova in straight sets in the Madrid Open quarter-finals earlier this year.

The winner of the Kostyuk-Noskova semi-final will face either two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff or Czech tenth seed Karolina Muchova in Saturday’s final. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli are set to contest their quarter-final on Thursday, with the potential for a rematch of their recent French Open final.
