Hull KR coach Willie Peters has called on his team to maintain a relentless approach throughout the entire 80 minutes as they prepare to host Leigh Leopards in a pivotal Super League match on Tuesday night at Craven Park.

Currently sitting third in the league standings, Hull KR will face seventh-placed Leigh, who are aiming to secure a play-off spot with a win in this encounter. The two sides met just last month, with the Robins narrowly claiming a 20-16 victory—the Leopards’ only defeat in their last six games. Hull KR enters the match on the back of a dominant 38-6 home win over York Knights, following a tight loss to Wakefield the previous round.

Peters emphasized the importance of seizing key moments and maintaining pressure on the opposition. Reflecting on the recent win against York, he noted the team had missed chances to extend their advantage and highlighted the need for consistent defensive effort, particularly in the final play of the game when the team had an opportunity to force a repeat set. He pointed out that the squad’s completion rate dropped to 52 percent in the second half, an area he considers crucial for demonstrating ruthlessness.

“For me, it’s the little moments in and around what I spoke about before that let you know when your side’s ruthless,” Peters explained. “It’s an individual thing. Obviously, if you have too many individuals doing the same actions, then it’s collective.”

The coach also spoke candidly about the selection challenges he is facing ahead of the clash, particularly within his forward pack. New signing Tevita Pangai Jr impressed off the bench on his debut, while Jai Whitbread remained unused on the 18th man during the last game but has a strong claim for inclusion, having been part of the squad for the past few years. Additionally, starting prop Suauso Sue is set to return following a one-match suspension and is expected to compete for a spot alongside Tom Amone.

“Look at last week, we had Jai Whitbread that didn’t make the team and he’s been in the team over the last two or three years,” Peters said. “It’s not enjoyable telling players they’re not in, but especially players that can make this team or other teams. It’s a good position to be in. I’m not complaining, that’s for sure.”

Hull KR’s meeting with Leigh Leopards promises to be a tightly contested match with both sides determined to secure vital points as the play-offs approach.
