Dejan Kulusevski marked a significant milestone in his recovery by making his long-awaited return to Tottenham Hotspur’s lineup during their recent Premier League fixture. The Swedish midfielder entered the match as a late substitute in the 87th minute of Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Coventry City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday.

Kulusevski’s comeback followed a challenging 17-month hiatus caused by complications after knee surgery performed in May 2025. Multiple setbacks delayed his return until a second procedure in March finally allowed the 26-year-old to resume full training and competitive play.

Reflecting on his arduous recovery process, Kulusevski described the journey as exceedingly difficult but emphasized his determination to continue working towards regaining form. “Everything feels great. I have been working harder than you can ever imagine,” he said after the match that secured Tottenham’s first Premier League win of the season. The victory lifted the club off the bottom of the league table at a crucial juncture.

Kulusevski detailed the extensive effort he put in away from the spotlight, often training for up to 10 hours daily. “When everything was impossible and everyone gave up, I never gave up because of this that happened today,” he said. Expressing gratitude to the supporters, Kulusevski acknowledged the significance of their support during his absence. “I am so grateful that they missed me play. It means a lot and I am here to show them a better me. And a better me will be a better Spurs so we will be good,” he added.

During Kulusevski’s injury layoff, Tottenham struggled considerably, managing only three home league wins and narrowly avoiding relegation in the 2025/26 season, surviving on the final day. His return offers fresh hope to the club and its fanbase as they seek to improve their standing in the current campaign.
