Kuwait has established itself as a regional leader in charitable and humanitarian efforts, supported by a strong legacy, high-level political backing, and robust institutional frameworks that enhance governance, transparency, and sustainability, according to Hamad Zaid Saud Al-Bseis, United Nations Ambassador for Community Partnership and chairman of the Al-Awazem Charitable Foundation.

Speaking on July 25 in Kuwait City, Al-Bseis highlighted that the country’s charitable sector has evolved beyond traditional aid distribution to embrace sustainable development initiatives grounded in scientific planning, impact assessment, and collaborative partnerships. He emphasized that effective governance is essential to the longevity of charitable work, noting that success is increasingly measured not by the volume of donations or number of projects, but by the efficient and transparent management of resources, adherence to accountability standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Al-Bseis further explained that investment in governance structures and institutional capacity has enhanced the efficiency of Kuwait’s nonprofit sector, thereby reinforcing the country’s standing as a key hub for humanitarian activity. He noted that numerous Kuwaiti organizations have adopted international best practices in areas such as risk management, internal controls, impact evaluation, and digital transformation.

Looking ahead, Al-Bseis underscored the importance of ongoing improvements in institutional performance to maintain Kuwait’s leadership role. He pointed to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, as critical tools to foster social innovation and strengthen the skills of the Kuwaiti workforce engaged in these efforts. Future success, he said, will depend on sustained focus on governance, partnership building, impact measurement, and alignment with sustainable development goals.
