Kuwaiti and Egyptian officials and industry representatives convened virtually on Monday to discuss expanding collaboration in the food industry amid mounting global supply chain challenges and food security concerns. The meeting, organized jointly by the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Egypt’s Export Council for Food Industries, aimed to explore strategic partnerships that could enhance trade, investment, and innovation between the two countries.

Emad Al-Zaid, Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted Egypt's rapid progress in developing its food sector over recent years. He cited the country's expanded production base, improved infrastructure, and increased investment activity as key factors that have boosted the competitiveness of Egyptian food products in regional and international markets. Al-Zaid emphasized the need to move beyond traditional trade relationships toward longer-term strategic partnerships that can better navigate global economic shifts and supply chain disruptions.

Echoing this sentiment, Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Mohamed Abu Al-Wafa pointed to the structural transformation of Egypt’s food industry, underscoring its robust agricultural and industrial foundations, sophisticated production capabilities, and strategic geographic location connecting markets in the Arab world, Africa, and Europe. He noted significant advances in infrastructure, industrial and logistics zone development, and the investment climate, which have collectively enhanced the sector’s competitiveness.

Abu Al-Wafa also reported that Egyptian exports from the food industry reached an unprecedented $6.33 billion in 2025, reflecting sustained growth. He identified Kuwait as a promising market characterized by a dynamic private sector, strong investment expertise, and a governmental focus on bolstering food security and supply diversification. The ambassador suggested that leveraging Egypt’s production capacity alongside Kuwaiti investment experience could forge a solid foundation for sustainable partnerships in food manufacturing and related industries.

The meeting included participation from Essam Breigh, Commercial Minister Plenipotentiary, Mai Khairy, Executive Director of Egypt’s Export Council for Food Industries, along with representatives from both countries’ food sector companies. Discussions encompassed recent developments in the food and beverage industries and explored emerging market opportunities in Kuwait and Egypt. The event also facilitated networking with the goal of strengthening cooperation not only in trade but also in achieving broader development objectives focused on food security and economic sustainability.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties and fostering joint ventures that contribute to mutual growth and the resilience of their food supply chains amid challenging global conditions.
