Abu Dhabi — UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met on June 24 with Kuwaiti Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Shuraiaan to discuss strengthening bilateral defense ties and regional security developments. According to statements from the UAE Ministry of Defense, the meeting was held within the context of enduring fraternal relations and defense cooperation between the two Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The discussions encompassed a range of topics including military cooperation, coordination, and shared security concerns. Both leaders underscored the importance of deepening military collaboration to advance mutual interests and enhance stability across the region.

On the same day, Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Shuraiaan and UAE Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Issa Al-Mazrouei convened to further military and defense collaboration efforts. Their talks focused on expanding frameworks for defense cooperation, improving combat readiness, and increasing operational efficiency within their respective armed forces. Both commanders highlighted the need to accelerate the exchange of knowledge and tactical expertise as a means to address common security challenges and support regional stability.

Separately, in Kuwait City on June 25, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah held talks with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Discussions centered on bilateral relations and developments in the Middle East, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to measures aimed at preserving peace and security in the wider region. The meeting was attended by key Kuwaiti officials, including Sheikh Thamer Al-Sabah, head of the Crown Prince’s Diwan; Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Al-Sabah; and Kuwait’s ambassador to Washington, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah.

In a related development, the U.S. Department of State announced the resumption of operations at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait effective midnight June 24, following a closure of more than three months. The embassy had suspended activities earlier in March due to attacks linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. A State Department spokesperson confirmed that emergency services for American citizens would be restored immediately, with other services gradually returning.

Secretary Rubio marked the reopening with a ceremony, posting images on the social media platform X of the American flag being raised once again over the embassy. He described Kuwait as an indispensable partner for regional security and expressed the United States’ intention to deepen cooperation across multiple fields.

These developments highlight ongoing efforts by Kuwait, the UAE, and the United States to enhance military cooperation and diplomatic engagement amid a complex regional security environment.
