Kuwait has reiterated its support for United Nations initiatives aimed at ending all forms of colonialism and emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states. Speaking before the UN General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization Committee on October 10, Kuwait’s Diplomatic Attache Mohammad Al-Mulla highlighted the continued significance of the Palestinian issue, calling on the international community to assume responsibility for ending the Israeli occupation.

Al-Mulla stressed the necessity of protecting Palestinian rights and called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the borders prior to June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also emphasized the need to uphold a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and ensure the protection of civilians amid ongoing conflict.

Addressing regional tensions in the Arabian Gulf, Al-Mulla condemned recent attacks attributed to Iran targeting Kuwait and other neighboring countries. He urged Tehran to fully comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, adopted earlier in 2026, which calls for a de-escalation of hostility in the region.

The Kuwaiti official reaffirmed support for the United Arab Emirates’ sovereignty claims over the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa. He called for a peaceful resolution of this dispute through negotiations or adjudication by the International Court of Justice.

On matters of regional security, Al-Mulla highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global maritime traffic. He also reiterated Kuwait’s backing for UN-led efforts to achieve a just and lasting political solution to the Western Sahara conflict, endorsing Morocco’s autonomy proposal as a framework for resolving the dispute.

Concluding his address, Al-Mulla affirmed Kuwait’s ongoing commitment to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, particularly efforts to end foreign occupation and colonialism, and to promote international peace and security.
