The governments of Kuwait and Qatar have issued separate statements condemning a series of recent regional attacks, emphasizing their support for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and calling for adherence to international law to preserve regional security and stability.
Kuwait’s Cabinet strongly denounced attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against civilian and economic targets in Saudi Arabia, which have resulted in dozens of injuries, including women and children. The Cabinet described these assaults as serious violations of Saudi sovereignty and international law, including breaches of international humanitarian law and United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2817. It expressed concern that such escalations undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and threaten the security and stability of the region.
The Kuwaiti government also condemned continued Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea, framing these actions as direct threats to maritime navigation, global energy supplies, and international trade routes. Additionally, Kuwait strongly criticized an Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker Sidr in the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in fatalities among the vessel’s crew. This attack was labeled a flagrant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Beyond Saudi Arabia, Kuwait condemned Iranian missile strikes against Bahrain and Jordan, labeling these acts as violations of sovereignty, breaches of the UN Charter, and threats to regional peace. The Cabinet underscored the need for all parties to cease escalatory actions and reaffirmed Kuwait’s right to defend its territory under international law. Defense and foreign affairs ministers briefed the Cabinet on the evolving security situation and diplomatic engagements, including ongoing coordination with international partners to enhance regional security.
Similarly, Qatar’s Cabinet issued a statement condemning attacks by Houthi forces targeting several Saudi cities, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, which caused civilian casualties. Qatar characterized these attacks as violations of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and international law, warning that such escalations jeopardize regional stability. The statement also condemned the assault on the Saudi tanker Sidr, affirming opposition to the use of the Strait of Hormuz for political leverage and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation through this strategic waterway.
Qatar further condemned recent Iranian actions against Kuwait, describing these as infringements on sovereignty and territorial integrity that run counter to international law and principles of good neighborliness. The Qatari government reiterated its solidarity with GCC states and underscored that the security of Gulf countries is interconnected and indivisible.
Both Kuwait and Qatar highlighted their commitment to diplomatic engagement and de-escalation efforts, calling for all parties to respect international legal frameworks governing sovereignty and navigation rights.
