Kuwait condemned the recent missile and drone attacks carried out by the Houthi militia targeting the Islamic holy cities of Makkah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia. The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Tuesday denouncing the assaults as provocative acts that undermine the sanctity of these religious sites and inflame the feelings of Muslims worldwide.
In addition to the attacks on Makkah and Madinah, Kuwait’s statement expressed strong disapproval of strikes aimed at Riyadh and other Saudi urban centers. The ministry also condemned assaults on civilians, civilian infrastructure, economic facilities, and maritime vessels in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandab Strait. Kuwait warned that such hostilities pose significant risks to regional security and maritime safety.
The Kuwaiti government characterized the recurrent Houthi actions as hostile and cowardly violations of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, as well as breaches of both international law and humanitarian principles. The ministry reiterated Kuwait’s firm backing for Yemen’s internationally recognized government and its commitment to the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
Furthermore, Kuwait praised Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts since 2014 to promote a political resolution to the conflict in Yemen. The ministry highlighted Riyadh's leadership role in the coalition supporting Yemen’s legitimate government and its pursuit of a comprehensive, lasting settlement grounded in the three references agreed upon by the parties involved.
