Kuwait’s Cabinet strongly condemned recent Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting multiple vital facilities within Kuwaiti territory, describing the strikes as clear violations of the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law. The attacks, which occurred in the days leading up to July 22, 2026, struck electricity generation and water desalination plants, oil sector installations, and other critical infrastructure, causing fires, significant damage to civilian and residential buildings, and injuries to several individuals.

The Cabinet meeting, chaired by His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, held Iran legally and morally responsible for these assaults, warning that such aggression threatens regional security and undermines de-escalation efforts. Kuwait emphasized its right under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and protect its territory and vital interests.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Totonchi following an attack on the Kuwaiti tanker Keifan as it transited the Strait of Hormuz. Kuwait described the tanker attack as a direct threat to international navigation and a breach of international law, demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities and stating it reserves the right to respond accordingly.

The Cabinet also voiced support for Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan, all of which have reportedly faced similar Iranian attacks. Kuwait condemned the strikes on these countries as violations of their sovereignty and territorial integrity and pledged solidarity with their governments in safeguarding security and stability. Additionally, the Cabinet rejected threats issued by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and maritime routes, underscoring that Saudi Arabia’s security is intrinsically linked to that of Kuwait and the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah briefed the Cabinet on military developments and affirmed the armed forces’ readiness and continued efforts to protect the nation’s security. Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah updated members on diplomatic steps taken by the Foreign Ministry and Kuwaiti missions abroad to address the escalating regional tensions.

In parallel, Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, accompanied by Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, visited injured victims receiving treatment at Al-Adan Hospital. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing full medical care and support until their recovery.

The Cabinet also praised the public’s strong response to the ongoing national electricity and water conservation campaign, “Waffir,” noting that cooperation among citizens, residents, government entities, the private sector, and media outlets reflected a high level of national responsibility. Officials urged continued adherence to conservation measures to help ensure the sustainability of essential services amid current challenges.

Separately, the Cabinet approved a draft decree-law aimed at combating commercial concealment to strengthen economic regulation and promote transparency. It also reviewed urban development initiatives focused on enhancing Kuwait’s visual identity and sustainability through landscaping, artistic projects, and infrastructure improvements, highlighting ongoing efforts to foster community participation in national development.
