Kuwait’s air defense systems successfully intercepted multiple hostile aerial threats following attacks attributed to Iran that targeted key infrastructure across the country, authorities reported. The assaults caused significant material damage, though no civilian casualties were reported.
The General Staff of the Kuwait Armed Forces stated that air defense units engaged several hostile drones, with audible explosions resulting from interception activities. The public was urged to adhere to official safety directives as operations continued.
According to Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Saud Al-Atwan, since early Wednesday, Kuwaiti forces detected and intercepted a total of four cruise missiles and 21 drones within the country’s airspace. These attacks followed a previous barrage involving one ballistic missile, five cruise missiles, and 33 drones, all of which were also intercepted successfully. The targeted sites included a range of vital and civilian facilities throughout Kuwait.
In addition to the aerial assaults, a Kuwait Navy vessel sustained damage during the attacks, resulting in injuries to four servicemen. These personnel were promptly treated and remain in stable condition under medical care.
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation of the attacks, characterizing them as a violation of the nation’s sovereignty and a serious threat to the safety of both citizens and residents. The Kuwait Fire Force, supported by army and National Guard units, was involved in containing a fire at one of the targeted locations and reported no injuries during firefighting operations.
Following the incidents, Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, accompanied by Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Shuraian, visited naval facilities to assess the damage and check on the wellbeing of the injured personnel. Both officials commended the swift response of the medical teams involved in the crisis.
The events underscore ongoing regional tensions and highlight the heightened security challenges Kuwait faces amid broader geopolitical conflicts in the area.
