Kuwait’s Armed Forces reported that its air defenses intercepted missile and hostile drone attacks early Wednesday, attributing any explosions heard to defensive measures. The Kuwaiti foreign ministry described the attacks as blatant violations of the country’s sovereignty and a direct threat to its security and stability. The assaults targeted multiple locations, including a residential complex in the capital, where a fire was quickly brought under control by emergency responders, with no reported injuries and only material damage.

Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Gharib, spokesman for the Kuwait Fire Force, stated that teams from Al-Hilali and Al-Madina fire centers responded promptly to extinguish the blaze caused by a hostile drone strike on the residential area.

Kuwait condemned the attacks as breaches of international law, citing violations of the United Nations Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. The government emphasized that such escalations jeopardize regional security and undermine ongoing efforts to reduce tensions through diplomacy. Kuwait also reaffirmed its right to take all necessary actions to defend its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its residents in accordance with international law.

The foreign ministry simultaneously condemned an Iranian attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil tanker Sidr near the Strait of Hormuz. The assault resulted in fatalities among the crew and was described as a violation of international law and Resolution 2817, posing threats to maritime navigation and global energy security. Sidr, owned by the Saudi shipping company Bahri, was one of two supertankers reportedly struck while transporting Saudi oil through the strategic waterway.

Saudi Arabia confirmed that two Filipino seafarers died in the attack on the Sidr, urging an immediate halt to escalations and respect for international maritime safety and the security of global energy supplies, according to the Saudi foreign ministry.

Moreover, Kuwait’s foreign ministry condemned recent Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Jordan, categorizing them as violations of sovereignty, the UN Charter, and Resolution 2817. Kuwait called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, advocating for dialogue, adherence to international law, and principles of good-neighborliness. It reiterated its solidarity with Bahrain and Jordan and endorsed measures aimed at protecting their sovereignty and security.

The series of attacks have raised concerns over rising regional tensions and potential disruptions to energy transit routes, with Kuwait emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and international cooperation to maintain stability in the Gulf region.
