A Kuwaiti delegation tasked with establishing the Aman National Center for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management conducted a visit to Oman to study the country’s approach to emergency and disaster management. The visit, which took place on October 20 in Muscat, was part of Kuwait’s broader effort to draw on regional and international expertise in preparedness, response, and risk management.
During their visit, the Kuwaiti team met with Omani officials, including Minister of Social Development Dr. Laila Al-Najjar and Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Harthi. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between the two countries and sharing expertise to improve emergency management capabilities and mitigate various risks.
The delegation toured Oman’s National Emergency Management Center, where they examined institutional frameworks, intersectoral coordination, and the integration of roles and responsibilities across different agencies. They reviewed procedures related to preparedness for exceptional weather events and disaster response.
A significant focus was placed on Oman's National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center. The Kuwaiti visitors evaluated its systems for monitoring, forecasting, and issuing early warnings, as well as how these capabilities support decision-making and bolster national readiness.
The program also included site visits related to civil defense, ambulance services, relief and shelter provisions, medical response, and public health sectors. The delegation assessed the coordination strategies in place to ensure rapid response and maintain essential services during emergencies.
The visit reflects Kuwait’s commitment to developing a comprehensive national center dedicated to crisis and disaster management by learning from established models in the region.
